Jose Sentamans, conference interpreter and director of SENTAMANS Traductores S.L., is a member of AIIC and holds a five-year BA in Translation and Interpreting from Universitat Jaume I (2005, with highest honours in the Simultaneous Interpreting Practicum) and a European Master’s in Conference Interpreting (EMCI) from the University of La Laguna (2011). Since 2010, he works as a simultaneous and consecutive interpreter for English, German, Catalan and Spanish at institutions, international organisations, technical congresses and high-level events.

Rigorous international education and recognised professional excellence
- 2005-2009. Jose works as an in-house translator at the UK headquarters of SDL International-RWS, one of the world’s leading translation companies.
- 2011. He completes the prestigious and rigorous European Master’s in Conference Interpreting (EMCI) at the University of La Laguna, the only programme in Spain endorsed since 1988 by the European Commission and the European Parliament, institutions that provide pedagogical support throughout the course and chair the final jury.
- 2012. He is invited by the SCIC of the European Commission to take part in the interinstitutional test for interpreters of the European Parliament, European Commission, and Court of Justice. While this does not constitute formal accreditation, he successfully passes the simultaneous and consecutive interpreting tests in the English > Spanish language combination.
- Since 2013. He co-coordinates the simultaneous and consecutive interpreting workshops at WISE Interpreting Workshops (awarded the Best Simultaneous Interpreting Workshop prize in 2015), held every summer in Valencia and Brussels —marking their 10th edition in 2023— which attracts interpreters from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, India, Italy, Peru, UK, Spain or Switzerland seeking to refine their interpreting skills.
- 2023 – 2025. He joins AICE (Asociación de Intérpretes de Conferencia de España, the leading Spanish Conference Interpreters’ Association) following a rigorous candidacy process in which his training, experience, professional ethics, and interpreting quality are validated through a live test, prior to final approval by the approximately 90 interpreters who make up the association.
- 2026. He becomes a member of AIIC (Association Internationale des Interprètes de Conférence), the world’s leading professional body for conference interpreters —founded in 1953 by interpreters who had worked at the Nuremberg Trials— and recognised by both the European Union and the United Nations as a counterpart in sectoral negotiations. His admission as a member of AIIC, following yet another rigorous candidacy process endorsed by long-standing members of the association, represents the highest distinction a conference interpreter can attain.
The exceptional nature of this triple milestone —his EMCI degree, membership of AICE, and membership of AIIC— offers compelling evidence of both the rigour of his training and his international professional standing.
Jose is also a member of industry associations such as Eventoplus and the Valencia Convention Bureau, and regional and national translators and interpreters’ associations such as AVIC, La Xarxa and ASETRAD. Testament to his close ties with the academic world, he regularly delivers courses and talks at national and international conferences such as ETIM, TRADICAN, and TerpSummit; professional associations of translators and interpreters such as ASETRAD and La Xarxa; and numerous universities, including Universidad Europea de Valencia, Universitat Jaume I de Castellón, University of Alicante, Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and University of La Laguna.
